Overview

Of Proposed Additions to RIGGS Surname Study by Geoff Riggs

First proposed by Alvy Ray Smith, 14 May 2002

with frequent additions and changes since then

In the verification of the descent from Edward Riggs of Roxbury to my putative great7 grandfather John Riggs, items 1 and 60 of the RIGGS Surname Study, respectively, the Edward of Roxbury MA branch, I was able to amplify somewhat several of the items in that study. Since it is so valuable to Riggs family researchers, I wish to share these additions as a contribution. I also greatly extend some of the USA branches beyond the scope of the Geoff Riggs site, with Generations 5 and above.

I have maintained the words of the original (as downloaded 14 May 2002), wherever possible, and have imitated its style for added material. All new material is shown in red.

I have evidence for all changes and extensions.  [ I enclose documentary evidence in square brackets. Incidental remarks to the reader are also so enclosed.] However, if I judge the evidence to be insufficient, I place a question mark before the questionable paragraphs.

The numbering scheme of RIGGS Surname Study has been preserved. When a new item is introduced, for which there is no number already provided in the original, I append a letter to the appropriate number. So 99A and 99B are the first two children of item 99. And 99BA and 99BB are the first two children of 99B. Etc.

I start at Geoff's generations #3 and #4 (click on Gen 3 and Gen 4 above, respectively) and go several generations deeper than his site whenever possible. If an item is not shown here, no changes are proposed for it and hence it is omitted. Generations #1 and #2 are covered well on RIGGS Surname Study.
