Henry Turner and His Family of North Carolina

Featuring

Joseph Ballanfant [Bellenfant] and His Family of Tennessee

Alvy Ray Smith

The Idea

I am trying a new "publication" idea. Here it is: I will publish a working draft of a book or paper as I go along. It will be in the form of a hyperlinked .pdf file (.pdf = Adobe Acrobat format). I hope to get feedback from readers as the document progresses: proofs, corrections, additions. And readers can have access to the information long before it meets paper publication standards. The document is available in fully hyperlinked format.

Copyright and intellectual property considerations

This is copyrighted material, and I expect to be given standard academic credit for its use. Here is the bibliographic reference that you can use when referring to materials from this document:

Alvy Ray Smith. Henry Turner and His Family of North Carolina, Featuring Joseph Ballanfant [Bellenfant] and His Family of Tennessee. Seattle, Wash.: Ars Longa, 2005.

The Paper

To download the current version of the paper, CLICK HERE. Current version v2.2. Dated 9 Oct 2005. Size ~ 6.5 megabytes, 43 pages.

Notice that this document looks like a book, but it is hyperlinked like webpages. That's why I think you will like this form better than a book.

Click on the first line of the title to take you to the Table of Contents. Clicking on an item in the Table of Contents will take you to that sketch. Clicking on a person's name at the beginning of a sketch will take you to the list of children to which he or she belongs. And vice versa. Clicking on an item in the Table of Illustrations will take you to that picture. If the pages are magnified so that the footnotes are not visible, then click on the first numeral of a footnote number to take you to that footnote. Click through the generations. Click along a major family branch. Use Acrobat's search function.

Feedback

I am publishing this as a working draft hoping for feedback. The bits in red type are unsatisfactory or raise a question. Help me get the red out. Please email me with your comments. Go to my homepage for an emailing icon: alvyray.com
