     Janice Elizabeth Morton Janice Elizabeth Morton (Smith). Janice is an adopted child. Janice was adopted. Janice was born on 30 July 1950. She was the daughter of Warren Morton and Alice Jeannette Sanders. She married Edward Louis Smith at Levelland, Hockley, Texas, USA, on 29 September 1972.

William was born at Menardville, Menard, Texas, USA, on 18 December 1888.⁴ He was the son of JEFFERSON JACKSON "Jeff" SANDERS and Ada Mae Williamson. William died on 10 November 1915 at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, at age 26.³ His body was interred at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, at Fairview Cemetery.³

     Barney Burns Sanders Mae Sanders (Parker) claims the 1890 birth date, but ``History of New Mexico, Vol. III'', Charles F. Coan, American Historical Society, 1925, states that he was 28 at death (in 1921) which implies a birth date of 1893. This is wrong since Mae was born in 1892 and was younger than Barney. This and several other discrepancies suggest that the History may frequentlyb e inaccurate. His death date there of 1921 does not correspond to his known death year of 1922 either.

He married Evelyn Gifford at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, in 1917.^6,5 Barney died on 18 March 1922 at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, at age 31.^7,3 His body was interred at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, at Fairview Cemetery.³

     Alice Mae Sanders Aunt Mae was the first Anglo child born in the Mexican community of Tularosa. According to "Things Remembered, Otero County", there was a little girl, Blanche R Parker, adopted daughter of Mary C Parker, who was the first Anglo child in Tularosa but she was 4 when she arrived in 1892. (Interestingly, Jeff Sanders witnessed Mary Parker's will for the benefit of Blanche, 2 Nov 1893.)

She died just shy of her 100th birthday. She was cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.

From her 15 Jul 1972 letter:

"They [her family] arrived in Tularosa in Aug. 1892 and I was born Oct. 7, 1892. The only place they could find to live was a one room adobe house with dirt floor and their covered wagon in back of the one room house. I was born in this house ..."

From the tape transcription of Oct 1985:

"And they traveld and traveled and finally, when they got to El Paso, they found that they were not too far from it [Tularosa] - I think about a hundred miles then. And, while I was in the party, but I hadn't really come out to meet the world just yet. But theytraveledon up to Tularosa, New Mexico. And it was a little Mexican settlement. One white family there who hadn't been there long, and they had two children of three or four years old [one would be Blanche Parker]. But they were about the only white family in Tularosa. And my folks were so worn out and tired from their trip that they decided to settle in this little Mexican town. And it was August of 1892 when they landed there. And in October - on October th 7th of the same year - I was born. And I was the middle child, for as time went on, there were two other children that came of that marriage. And I was quie a curiosity among these Mexicans because they're all dark and I was very white, light hair - white hair in fact. And they would come and borrow me and take me home with them. And my mother was not afraid to let them have me. They would take me home and look after me and bring me back and they thought I was quite a curiosity. And they all said I looked like a doll, and they called me Dolly. And Dolly was the name I went by until I went to school. And my mother said to my father that that child must be called by her name. My name was Alice Mae Sanders. And so I went to school then with that name. And there were Mexicans there - the old timers - that as long as I can remember when I would go back to visit would call me Dolly." Alice was born at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, on 7 October 1892.⁶ She was the daughter of JEFFERSON JACKSON "Jeff" SANDERS and Ada Mae Williamson. She married Marshall Warner Parker at El Paso, El Paso, Texas, USA, in 1916.⁷ Alice died circa 1992 at Escondido, San Diego, California, USA.

     Nelle was born at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, on 7 June 1894.³ She was the daughter of JEFFERSON JACKSON "Jeff" SANDERS and Ada Mae Williamson. She married Ralph Berlin Simpers.⁴ Nelle died on 19 August 1951 at New Bern, Craven, North Carolina, USA, at age 57. Her body was interred at Alamogordo, Otero, New Mexico, USA.

     Edward Mead Sanders Uncle Ed had no issue. He raised three nephews and one niece. Edward was born at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, on 15 March 1897.³ He was the son of JEFFERSON JACKSON "Jeff" SANDERS and Ada Mae Williamson. He married Katherine T "Tennie" Tillman.⁴ Edward died on 22 July 1967 at Ruidoso, Lincoln, New Mexico, USA, at age 70. His body was interred at Ruidoso, Lincoln, New Mexico, USA.

     Katherine T "Tennie" Tillman We always called her Tinnie. This may have been spelled 'Tennie' as I was told once that the nickname had come from her background in Tennessee. Tinnie died in the mid 1950s in Tularosa (by Alvy (2)).

     He married Jenny Cyrus. Ralph was born at Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware, USA, in 1897. He married Nelle B Sanders.¹ Ralph died on 12 October 1965.² His body was interred after 12 October 1965 at Alamogordo, Otero, New Mexico, USA, at Alamogordo, NM.²

     Ada Mae Simpers Ada Mae died May 1996.

The Alvy Smith letter evidence mentions "2 children: Robert and Catherine." Ada was born at Tularosa, Otero, New Mexico, USA, in 1921. She was the daughter of Ralph Berlin Simpers and Nelle B Sanders. She married Woodrow Buren Lewis before 29 March 1947.² Ada died on 14 May 1996 at Santa Ana, Orange, California, USA.²

     Robert S Simpers is the son of Ralph Berlin Simpers and Nelle B Sanders. He married Margaret Katherine Mercer on 10 October 1942.¹

     He married Rita Louise Smith at Alvy and Edith Smith's backyard, Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, on 21 July 1979.

     Sweet died. He Sweet Clayton. Came to NM in the early 1880s. Settled in Cox Canyon near Cloudcroft, NM. He married Jane McNatt. Sweet was born on 19 October 1856.

     Verner died. Verner was born. He married Vera Carter.

     Cubia Clayton Cubie Clayton. Birthplace: On Cox Canyon, near Cloudcroft, NM. Married: December 28. He married Jenny Cyrus. Cubia was born at Cloudcroft, Otero, New Mexico, USA, on 5 September 1892. Cubia died on 24 April 1940 at age 47.

     She married Verner Clayton. Vera died. Vera was born in 1890.

     She married Ralph Berlin Simpers. She married Cubia Clayton.

     Jane Clayton is the daughter of Verner Clayton and Vera Carter.

     Richard was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, in 1878.¹ He was the son of Richard Hargreaves and Vine Julia Levett. He married Clara Mabel Foord at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, in 1904.² Richard died on 7 May 1940.

     Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves His nickname was 'Ral.' Israel was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, on 18 November 1879.² He was the son of Richard Hargreaves and Vine Julia Levett. He married Martha Dodd at Marrickville, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, before 1907.³ Israel died on 18 July 1964 at age 84.⁴

     Bert Israel Hargreaves Hargreaves Book, p 89:

"The next son was Bert, who was born on the 28th August, 1884. He married Edna Catts on 23rd July, 1918. Bert also ran a property at Wondalga. His second marriage was to Al Clarke." Bert was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, on 28 August 1884.¹ He was the son of William Henry "Willie" Hargreaves and Elizabeth Capel. He married Edna Catts on 23 July 1918.¹ He married Al Clarke.¹ Bert died on 22 November 1962 at age 78.²

     Elsie was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, on 15 April 1888. She was the daughter of William Henry "Willie" Hargreaves and Elizabeth Capel. She married Tom Tonkin on 28 August 1915. Elsie died on 26 June 1974 at age 86.

     He married Elsie Maud Hargreaves on 28 August 1915.

The following is from Colin Hargreaves' history of the James Hargreaves branch, written for the 1990 sesquicentennial of the founding of the Australian branch of the family.

"Came to Australia as a ship's officer in the 1830s, but as the result of an accident to his ship had to leave the navy. He married Mary Ann Parmenter, the daughter of John Parmenter and Mary McEvoy both of whom had been transported in 1830 for seven years for very minor offences, and settled on a property at Wagga which he share farmed with another. Their daughter Eliza was born in 1851. This family was also washed by the 52 flood further down the river and had to spend a night and a day on the roof of a dwelling. He then took up a 45 acre block on Bombowlee near the early proposed site of the township of Tumut, a site still owned by his descendants.'' Thomas immigrated, circa 1830. Destination: (an unknown value).² He married Mary Ann Parmenter at Australia.²

     John (1) Hargreaves Died as infant before 1840 (before the emigration from England). Later sibling also named John. Then, since he (the second John) died at sea, the next child [9] born was named John also. John was born at Haslingden, Lancashire, England, on 2 October 1835. He was the son of HENRY WILLIAM HARGREAVES and SUSANNAH BLOMLEY. John died in 1840 at England.

     John (2) Hargreaves John Hargreaves. Died and buried at sea during transit from England to Australia (probably of typhoid fever). Buried after service by Captain Cockrane of the brig "Champion". This was the first of about 30 who died on this voyage. John was born at Burnley, Lancashire, England, in February 1840.¹ He was the son of HENRY WILLIAM HARGREAVES and SUSANNAH BLOMLEY. John died on 8 June 1840 at Brig Champion, Captain Cockrane, At sea, at age 0.¹ His body was interred at At sea.

     William was born at England in 1795.¹ He was the son of Thomas Capel and Elizabeth (?). He married Margaret Hegarty at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 1 August 1839. He married Mary Ann Considine at St Lawrence's Church of England, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 29 March 1841.^2,3 As Frederick C Capel's father, William presented him at his baptism at St. Saviours Church of England, Goulburn, Argyle, New South Wales, Australia, in January 1851.⁴ William died on 27 July 1855 at Camperdown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

     Mary Ann Parmenter is the daughter of James Parmenter and Mary McEvoy. She married Dr Thomas Udney Webb at Australia.¹

     Percy was born at Australia in 1882. He was the son of Richard Hargreaves and Annabella Mary Cutting. Percy died on 31 December 1912.

     William H Sanders Died at age 24 according to ``History of New Mexico, Vol. III'', Charles F. Coan, American Historical Society, 1925.

Colin Hargreaves (letter of April 7, 1990): "I checked up today on the birth years of Will & Sarah's children on microfiche at our own shire library headquarters just across the lake from here (Belmont): Elizabeth J. 1857, Alice 1859, Will H. 1861, and Jeff. J. 1863. The microfiche gives only the year and the registration numbers, which I have also. The certificates in full would only be available from the Registar of Births, Deaths & Marriages.'' William was born in 1861.³ He was the son of WILLIAM MARION "Will" SANDERS and SARAH HARGREAVES. William died in 1885 at Menard, Menard, Texas, USA.

     Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Sanders The "Jane" was obtained from the Barry Hargreaves family tree, Elizabeth from ``History of New Mexico, Vol. III'', Charles F. Coan, American Historical Society, 1925. I am guessing they are the same person by combining the names.
In a letter dated 15 Dec 1879 -Sarah to her parents in Australia: "--will take her remains to Tennessee to be buried by her grandparents."
Elizabeth was born in 1857.² She was the daughter of WILLIAM MARION "Will" SANDERS and SARAH HARGREAVES. She married William Bruce circa October 1879.^3,4 Elizabeth died on 1 December 1879 at Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico, USA.^5,6 Her body was interred in December 1879 at Giles, Tennessee, USA, at Family Cemetery.⁷

     Gertrude was born. She married Edwin Hargreaves at Gundagai, New South Wales, Australia, on 20 April 1904. Gertrude died on 12 January 1963.

     John was born in 1864. He married Elizabeth Jane Hargreaves at Tarrabandra, New South Wales, Australia, on 8 January 1895. John Frederick Dowsett married Francis Menneke in 1907 at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia.¹ John died on 17 April 1943 at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia.²

     She married Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves at Marrickville, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, before 1907.¹

     Jack Hargreaves Jack Hargreaves. Never married. Jack was born at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 8 January 1907.¹ He was the son of Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves and Martha Dodd. Jack died on 20 June 1986 at age 79.¹

     He married Ina McInnes.¹ Colin was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, on 7 November 1912.¹ He was the son of Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves and Martha Dodd. Colin died on 10 August 1983 at age 70.¹

     Muriel was born at Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, on 10 December 1910.¹ She was the daughter of Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves and Martha Dodd. She married Louis Garfield Kell in 1943.² Muriel died on 16 July 1964 at age 53.¹

     He married Margaret Hart.¹ Arthur Clarence Hargreaves is the son of Israel Henry "Ral" Hargreaves and Martha Dodd.

     He married Muriel Isobel Hargreaves in 1943.¹

     She married Dallas Vivian Hargreaves on 1 January 1938.

     William was born at Adelong, New South Wales, Australia, on 6 December 1864.¹ He was the son of John Hargreaves and Catherine Capel. William died on 30 December 1864 at Adelong, New South Wales, Australia, at age 0.¹

     Emma Hargreaves The LDS evidence gives her death date as 12 Apr 1944 (no place given). Emma was born at Adelong, New South Wales, Australia, on 31 May 1868.¹ She was the daughter of John Hargreaves and Catherine Capel. She married Charles Lincoln at Tarrabandra, New South Wales, Australia, on 26 October 1887. Emma died on 3 July 1944 at Earlwood, New South Wales, Australia, at age 76.

     Charles was born in 1864. He married Emma Hargreaves at Tarrabandra, New South Wales, Australia, on 26 October 1887. Charles died in 1929.
